Dr. Lynnette Bihl, Chief of Veterinary Staff

​Dr. Bihl started her veterinary career with Best Friends in 1992. In 2000, she was promoted to Medical Director where she oversees the entire veterinarian medical team.  She earned her DVM degree with honors,  from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.  She also holds a BA in Biochemistry, with honors from The University of Texas at Austin.  She shares her home with her husband of many years and is proud mother to a wonderful daughter, several cats, a rabbit, and fish.  In her free time she enjoys  traveling to fun and exotic places with her family.

Dr. Neal M. Bernstein​, DVM

Dr. Sarah Goodyear, DVM

Dr. Goodyear practices small animal medicine and surgery with a strong interest in reptile and small mammal exotics. She received her Bachelors of Animal Science in 1995 and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. She's been practicing at Best Friends Veterinary Hospital and living in the Houston area with her husband, dogs, horses, ferrets, and hedgehogs since 2002. Also an avid equestrian, she regularly competes her two horses, in the sport of Three-Day Eventing. Other hobbies include contra dancing and scrapbooking.

Dr. Ash Mills, DVM

Dr. Mills is a Texas A & M graduate, earning his veterinary degree in May 2014.  Later that month, he joined the Best Friends staff to practice small animal & exotic medicine and surgery.  His professional interests include neurology, dermatology, and internal medicine with special interest in renal disease.

Karla, Assistant Hospital Administrator


Karla moved to Texas from North Florida in August 2000 and has been with Best Friends since.  Her family raised and trained Greyhounds for over 20 years when she was younger, so it was an easy decision for Karla to continue her dream of working with animals.  She has also cared for and worked with running Quarter Horses and  Thoroughbreds since the age of 16, she LOVES horses! Karla has 2 beautiful daughters and  a wonderful Quarter Horse named Suzy!  In her free time Karla enjoys  spending time with Suzy, Nascar, being outdoors, and painting ceramics.​

April, Lead Veterinary Technician

April has been in the animal field for a number of years, with 12 of those years as a veterinary technician.  She graduated from UT Austin with a degree in Zoology, then attended the Veterinary Technician program at Lone Star College Tomball to earn an Associates in Applied Science.  She is married and has a wonderfully beautiful 8 year old daughter. 4 dogs, and 2 cats.  When April is not working, she enjoys spending time volunteering with Operation Pets Alive! helping to find dogs their "furever" homes.

Michelle,  Inventory Manager


Michelle is our Sales Supervisor and Inventory Manager.  She has been a veterinary technician for 20 years, 17 of those years have been with Best Friends.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Sam Houston State University.  Michelle is a dedicated mom to three beautiful daughters, 4 Pembroke Welsh Corgis, 1 Pomeranian, 4 horses, 2 goats, 2 cats, and a ton of Californian rabbits (which are bred and raised for the county fair).  She is also an adult leader in the Montgomery County 4-H Horsemanship Club and shows her dogs in AKC Rally, Obedience, and herding events.

Miriam, Veterinary Technician

Miriam has been in the veterinary field since 2011 and hopes to be blessed with many more successful years.  She graduated from Vet Tech Institute in the spring of 2012 and joined the Best Friends Veterinary Hospital team in June of 2012.  Miriam is extremely helpful when it comes to interpreting for clients because she is bilingual.  She is currently studying to take her VTNE and then her LVT exam very soon. 

Amy, Client Services

Amy comes to Best Friends with a number of years in the Veterinary Field.  In the summer of 2013 her husband, who is an Army Recruiter was reassigned to Texas.  If you were to ask Amy what state has been her favorite, she would have to say Texas because everyone is just so nice and have an accent just like her.  She has spent many of her years in the service industry as well as the veterinary field, and watching her in action you can tell she loves people and pets.  Amy shares her home with a loving husband, son, daughter, and 2 dogs.   

Shana, Client Services

Shana is a small town girl from Lufkin and it shows in the hospitality she shows our clients and patients.  She is fairly new to the veterinary field, but in the year and half she has worked for Best Friends, she has learned so much and is always smiling and greeting people as they come in.  Shana is married, with twins, 4 dogs, one cat, and a horse.  When she's not chasing her twins, she enjoys muddin, fishing, riding her horse and church activities with her family.  Shana's favorite part of the field is being able to make a difference with animals.  

Kelly, Veterinary Technician

Kelly started working with animals at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in 2009. In 2010 she went to work as a veterinary surgical assistant. Kelly has been working as a Veterinary Technician Assistant at Best Friends since August 2013. She has 4 dogs & 2 cats. Kelly still enjoys Volunteering at the Animal Shelter in her spare time.

Gwen, Animal Care Technician

Gwen has been with Best Friends since August 2001.  Since she was a little bitty girl she has always loved animals.  Being raised on a dairy farm in upstate New York, she is a natural when it comes to the care of our furry friends, everyone loves coming to stay with Auntie Gwen.  She shares her home with 5 dogs, a ferret & a 32 yr old horse.  In her free time she enjoys cross stitch, crocheting, painting ceramics, dirt track racing, Nascar, drag racing and monster trucks.  Gwen is the proud mother of a son and daughter, grandmother of five. 

Jessica, Veterinary Technician

Jessica has been in the veterinary field for over 14 years, with 10 of those years right here at Best Friends Veterinary Hospital.  She has a sweet dog named Harry, a spunky kitty named Spot, and twin kittens: Pink and Yellow.  While she currently doesn't have any, Jessica has a great love for small pocket pets/exotics and is the first technician on the case for those who come in for medical care.  In her spare time she enjoys swimming, hiking, reading, and hanging out with her family.

Ashley, Head of Client Services

Originally from Louisiana, Ashley came to find her home in Texas when her family moved here when she was a little girl.  She has worked in the veterinary field for the past 20 years, in which half of those years have been with Best Friends.  Ashley is the favorite smiling face at the front desk in the eyes of most clients and patients.  Her favorite part of working at Best Friends is chatting with the clients, developing lasting relationships and she can't imagine doing anything else.  She is happily married, with a 16 year old daughter, 15 year old son, and an extremely energetic Blue Heeler.     

Melissa, Animal Care Technician

Melissa is one of our Animal Care Technicians. She has been with Best Friends since January 2013. When Melissa is not busy caring for & loving on our boarding pets, she helps our veterinary technicians, when needed.


Michelle

Michelle is a small town girl who has grown up around animals her whole life. Tradition farm animals as well as exotics, including deer, elk, turkey and opossum. She graduated from Vet Tech Institute in December 2014 and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in May 2016. She enjoys surgery and complex internal medicine cases. When not at work she enjoys spending time with all her Dalmatians and her Leopard Appaloosa. She also enjoys reading, fishing and spending time with her family and friends. She plans to return to school soon in hopes of becoming a veterinarian.
